The purposes of Feeding a Hungry World: Focus on Rice in Asia and the Pacific are to introduce students to the diversity of rice culture and rice-based farming systems in Asia and the Pacific and to help provide students with skills to prepare for the needs of the future global population. Readings include a literature excerpt from Thailand, a folktale and poetry from China, a short story from Indonesia, a personal narrative from Bangladesh, a legend from the Philippines, and a folktale from Japan.
